My Name Means Light
My Mom said she named me Helen because “He” means “It is” in Chinese and “len” is associated with light. I didn’t believe her until I googled it myself.
Usually when I tell people my name, they tell me how Helen is their grandma’s name. Babynames.com says, “Helen is the kind of name that’s serious, simple and true—it’s a name you can count on. It’ll never be considered fussy or pretentious. In Greek mythology, it was the name of Zeus’ daughter, whose kidnapping started the Trojan War…Helen has had her ups and downs in the popularity polls, but these days, it’s coming out of an unfashionable funk, as old-timey names are back in favor.”
Old-timey or not, my name serves as a sign of my purpose and deepest dreams, which is to spark a little bit of light for those in the dark.
